Marty of AmbergrisCaye.com helps to spread the word of the dire need of a crocodile sanctuary for ill, injured and problematic crocodiles on Ambergris Caye. Maria Novelo of LOVETV covers the story. (Special Thanks to the San Pedro Sun for provided in the croc capture footage.)
This is George. He is a 14 foot male endnagered American crocodile that would not be alive today if not for ACES. We rescued George when authorities informed us that he would be shot if we could not help. He was removed from the WASA LAgoon area in 2008. This photograph was taken Feb. 2012 at ACES Caribbean Shrimp Farm facility in Ladyville. This is the type of natural and secure facility we prepose for the island. We are reaching out for anyone with lagoon property to consider allowing us to utilize a portion of it to help rescue these magnificant creatures.
Xanadu, another croc rescued from San Pedro with assistance from Xanadu Island Resort, can be seen in the background. With the help of ACES's Croc-Crusaders, donors and sponsors, this croc, along with George, was rescued from ACES in PG nine months after the arson.
While we are moving forward on the permiter fencing with the smaller holding facility up north, with funding from the Edmonton Reptile and Amphibian Society, this facility will be more of a wildlife rehab. Treating and temporarily holding all wildlife in need until they can either be re-released or sent to the appropiate wildlife facility on the mainland. Additionally, smaller crocs (i.e. hatchlings) being displaced by development will be cared for here until an appropiate wild area can be determine for their safe release. The facility is still in need of funding for completion and will be operated by volunteers.
Thank you for your support,
Vince, Cherie, & George
